Worth knowing before you sign
- · You build and maintain the agent yourself. The docs describe Vapi as "the developer platform for building voice AI agents" where you choose your own transcriber, LLM and voice from "dozens of providers and models", and the FAQ states that "for more advanced features like function calling, you will have to set up a Server URL to receive and respond to messages." There is no done-for-you setup service in the published pricing.
- · The $0.05/min is hosting only. The pricing page labels it "Vapi Hosting Cost" and "Excludes Model Provider Costs"; STT, LLM and TTS are billed "At cost" on top, and the FAQ says "the vast majority of cost in running your application will come from provider cost (Speech-to-text, LLM, Text-to-speech) direct with vendors (Deepgram, OpenAI, ElevenLabs, etc)".
- · Telephony is not included. The pricing page's usage calculator lists Transport as "Charged by provider, not Vapi".
- · Concurrency is capped at 10 by default: "Every Vapi account includes 10 concurrent call slots by default", and extra lines cost "$10 / line / mo". When all slots are busy, "new outbound dials or inbound connections wait until a slot becomes free."
- · On the Build plan call history is retained only 14 days and chat history 30 days.
- · HIPAA is a $2000/mo add-on and Zero Data Retention a $1000/mo add-on on both plans.
- · Bot only — Vapi supplies no human agents or live-answer fallback anywhere in its published plans.
- · No physical headquarters address is published; the Terms of Service identify only "Vapi Inc., a Delaware corporation".
- · Vapi does not publish a documented per-second or per-minute rounding rule for the hosting fee on its pricing page or in its docs index.
